Project Overview
Unique to the majority of institutions of higher education spread throughout the country, Eastern Washington University, occupying 300 rural acres outside of Spokane, is the home to a research facility located on a wildlife refuge. As the existing facility has been subject to aging was identified by the university for renovation. The university desired an improved learning environment with upgraded features that would allow for increased hands-on learning. Facility goals incorporated into the design included expanded space for a greater number of students while making the lab more accessible through ADA safety compliance to accommodate students of varying needs. Additionally, renovated HVAC systems were included to improve the energy efficiency of the building.
